silly questions asked:

Which engine will get better gas mileage for a 1973 VW Super Beetle?

1500cc VW engine
or
1200cc VW engine
Oh, yeah, by how much do they differ? There is a great deal on the 1500cc, but we are looking to get the most out of the engine in terms of gas mileage also.

I think the 1500 engine may be better in this instance….
The Super beetle never came with the 1200. Bear in mind the ‘Super’ is a heavier car than the standard 1200.
I know there wasn’t a great deal of difference in power between the two but I think the smaller engine would have to work harder to move your ‘Bug’.
Bigger doesn’t always mean more gas! Power to weight is more important.

I think you can swap in a 1300cc (which is similiar to a 1500 but with a smaller bore.. Super came with 1600 cc stock which again is a 1500 enlarged. Weightwize, the struts on the Sb made it lighter than the torsionbar in the front. I had a carbed unit.
